Well, as we have recruited TEN new members in one day I thought we should give them the chance to say hi, and introduce themselves to those here already. However, as I am not one to ask someone to do something I am not prepared to do myself, I think it best that I start the ball rolling.
My full name is Michael David Foard and I was born in the market town of Witney, Oxon. Having spent four years of my childhood in Australia, and having a little sister who was born there, I tend to have a few Ausie traits, such as saying it as it is and not being to flowery, up to a point! It was also in Australia that I was introduced to the single biggest influence in my life after that of my Dad. I was five years old in January 1973 and watching some guy on T.V singing in Hawaii . . . . . . . Well you know who I am talking about, Barry Manilow . . NO, Elvis of course.
Well it took until I was 20yrs old before I sang in front of an audience, it was in a Rock band called Christine Sixteen, doing AC/DC, Pat Bennetar, Guns & Roses to Ozzy Osbourne. Though a great ban, I was also asked to sing for my favourite local band to cover for them, Freebird, where I was introduced to another major musical influence, Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Moved on to form another Rock combo called Southbound. We were together for about five years gigging constantly but not making any money. We covered most rock from AC/DC to Bryan Adams and Thin Lizzy. Due to University for a couple of our guitarists, we disbanded.
1998 I entered the Marie Currie Best Singer of an Elvis Song Contest, run by the OEPFC -couldn't believe I won the trip of a lifetime to Memphis!! However, when I got back I promptly joined another Rock band called Arrabanned, this time adding the Rolling Stones and a lot of 60's bands to my growing repatoir. I was with these guys for about 6 years when I became bored of singing the same stuff over and over so formed my own band, Riff Raff. We did mostly a variation of the songs performed with all the other bands but added Lynryd Skynyrd into the mix along with a couple of elvis tunes. I was CONSTANTLY asked to do an Elvis song which is why, a little over two years ago, I began to do tribute shows . . . . . I aint looked back.
I now do my Elvis tribute, Rock 'N' Roll shows and some rock stuff on my own adding new songs to the mix as and when I feel like it.
The best thing now though is, performing with my soul mate from Bradford in our Blues Brothers and The Presley Brothers shows, it is here that I am truly at home and myself on stage.
Well, you now know me, tell me about you!
